How the APUSH Score is Calculated
This calculator estimates your AP U.S. History exam score based on the official scoring guidelines from the College Board:
- Multiple Choice: 1 point per correct answer (55 questions, 40% of total score)
- Short Answer: 3 points per question (3 questions, 20% of total score)
- DBQ: 7 points maximum (includes thesis, document analysis, contextualization, 25% of total score)
- LEQ: 6 points maximum (includes thesis, evidence, analysis, 15% of total score)
- The composite score is converted to the 1-5 AP scale using College Board standards
AP US History Score Distribution
Typical score ranges based on previous years:
- 5: 100-130 points (top 10-15% of students)
- 4: 80-99 points (next 15-20% of students)
- 3: 60-79 points (next 25-30% of students)
- 2: 40-59 points
- 1: 0-39 points
